I have sort of an interesting story about the weather on the day that I took this picture near Cottonwood Pass. From the town of Buena Vista, I noticed there were large grayish clouds over the mountains that surround Cottonwood Canyon, the eastern canyon that leads to the Cottonwood Pass summit. I didn't care though - I was itching to take some photos.

As I was driving towards the summit, the weather became increasingly dreary and gray, but I still managed to get some nice photos of the fall foliage. Pretty soon as I traveled up, it began to rain ... which became sleet ... which became snow near the summit! It was surreal: Just a few miles down the road I was enjoying the wonders of the fall and here I was amidst a significant snowstorm!

This specific photo was taken while driving downhill (eastbound) on Chaffee County Road 306, inside Cottonwood Canyon.
